Detroit experienced a record-breaking warm afternoon today, with temperatures reaching at least 85 degrees by 2 p.m., surpassing the previous daily high of 83 degrees set in 1975. This warm spell, however, is set to give way to a significant cool down across Southeast Michigan as a cold front moves through the region this evening, bringing chances for rain overnight and much lower temperatures through the end of the week and into the weekend.

The afternoon saw sunny skies and temperatures reaching the low to mid 80s across Southeast Michigan. Breezy conditions were also present, with southwest to west winds steady between 15 and 20 miles per hour, and gusts intermittently reaching around 30 miles per hour.

As evening approaches, winds are expected to lighten, and cloud cover will increase. Scattered rain is anticipated to move across Southeast Michigan overnight, with temperatures falling into the mid-50s by early Wednesday.

Most of Wednesday is expected to remain dry, though isolated showers could be possible during the afternoon hours. This is also when temperatures will begin to fall back closer to average for the season, with highs reaching the mid to upper 60s.

Thursday will bring slightly cooler weather, described as "a tad cooler," under mostly cloudy skies. High temperatures are forecast to be in the low 60s. Rain chances will reappear in Southeast Michigan beginning Thursday afternoon and extending into Friday, prompted by an approaching strong cold front.

This strong cold front is expected to move through Friday morning. Alongside continued rain chances, Friday will also bring windy conditions. Northwest winds are anticipated to be steady between 20 and 25 miles per hour, with gusts potentially reaching at least 40 miles per hour. High temperatures on Friday will only be around 60 degrees as the front significantly cools the region.

The weekend is set to start quite chilly. Saturday and Sunday mornings are expected to see temperatures in the mid-30s, with the possibility of frost both days. Saturday's highs will climb into the mid-50s. By Sunday afternoon, temperatures are forecast to rise back to around 60 degrees. Despite the chillier mornings, both Saturday and Sunday are expected to feature plenty of sunshine, making for a clear, albeit brisk, end to the week.
