Detroit and its surrounding communities are set for a period of pleasant weather, beginning with a gradual warmup on Sunday that will lead into a dry and increasingly warm workweek. While runners and spectators at the Detroit Free Press Marathon experienced a chilly start to Sunday’s race, marked by morning frost concerns and temperatures in the 30s across many areas of Metro Detroit, conditions quickly shifted.
Throughout Sunday afternoon, the region enjoyed abundant sunshine as temperatures climbed. Highs were expected to reach near 60 degrees, which is considered normal for this time of year. Downtown Detroit saw temperatures rise into the upper 40s by late morning, eventually reaching the lower to mid-50s around noon. These pleasant afternoon conditions made for an opportune time to appreciate fall colors or to spend additional time outdoors following the marathon. Southwest winds picked up during the day, increasing to approximately 10 to 15 mph, with gusts potentially reaching 20 to 25 mph. These breezes were noted as potentially noticeable along any exposed sections of the race course. No rain was anticipated for the day, ensuring clear skies.
As Sunday evening arrived, skies remained mostly clear, allowing temperatures to descend. Residents in Detroit could expect lows around 40 degrees, while some outlying communities might see temperatures dip into the mid-30s. Anyone planning to be outdoors during the evening hours was advised that a jacket would be a comfortable choice as temperatures settled back through the 50s.
Looking ahead to the workweek, the forecast indicates a consistent stretch of dry weather and warmer afternoons. Monday is expected to bring more sunshine, with a high temperature approaching 65 degrees. This warming trend is set to continue, with Tuesday reaching approximately 66 degrees. Wednesday’s highs are predicted to be around 67 degrees, further increasing to about 68 degrees by Thursday.
This pattern of clear conditions is projected to hold steady through the week, characterized by mostly sunny days and predominantly clear nights. Overnight low temperatures are also expected to gradually increase, settling into the 40s. Afternoon temperatures across the region are anticipated to remain comfortably in the middle to upper 60s as the week progresses and heads into the next weekend. This extended period of mild, dry weather offers continued opportunities for outdoor enjoyment across Detroit, Hamtramck, and Highland Park.
