Residents across Detroit, Hamtramck, and Highland Park can expect patchy dense fog possible overnight Sunday and into Monday morning. Drivers are advised to allow extra time for their commute and use low beam headlights if encountering fog.
The beginning of the week will see temperatures cooler than the mild weekend. Monday is forecast to have patchy dense fog in the morning, followed by partly cloudy skies and a high of 67 degrees. Monday night will be mostly cloudy with a low around 44 degrees.
Tuesday will bring a mix of sunshine and clouds, with cooler temperatures reaching a high of 60 degrees. Tuesday night is expected to be partly cloudy with a low of 45 degrees. By Wednesday, a mix of sunshine and clouds will return, with temperatures warming slightly to a high of 66 degrees.
High pressure will largely control the forecast through the early part of next week. A weak cold front is anticipated to move through the region by Monday night and into Tuesday. While temperatures have been above average through the weekend and the start of next week, the brief cool down will drop highs into the low 60s by Tuesday before they rebound.
One significant concern for the region is the continued lack of rainfall. Detroit Metro Airport has not seen measurable rainfall in over a week. Current forecasts do not indicate any significant rain in the immediate future, which will heighten drought concerns. Most of southeastern Michigan is now under a D0, or abnormally dry, risk on the drought monitor. Residents with dry Halloween decorations outdoors should keep an eye on them over the next three to five days due to these dry conditions.
The dry forecast pattern is expected to continue through most of next week. While Tuesday and Wednesday will feature a mixture of sunshine and clouds, more consistent sunshine is anticipated for the second half of the week. Temperatures will begin to climb, reaching the mid-60s by Wednesday and then the upper 60s to near 70 degrees by the end of next week.
There is a low chance for a few rain showers late Thursday night, associated with another disturbance moving through the region. However, most areas are expected to remain dry, with the best chance for showers likely staying north of Metro Detroit.
Looking ahead to next weekend, Halloween plans appear favorable with plenty of sunshine and above-average temperatures. Highs could reach the lower 70s by Saturday afternoon. For those planning trick-or-treating on Saturday evening, the forecast calls for mainly clear skies with temperatures in the 60s. The end of next weekend and the beginning of November will also feature sunshine and above-average temperatures, with highs in the upper 60s by Sunday afternoon.
As a reminder for residents, Daylight Saving Time will conclude next Sunday morning. Clocks will “fall back” one hour at 2:00 AM on Sunday morning, marking the end of daylight saving for the year.
